TNT UK Express Courier lost Thales Underwater Systems parts. They were part of a TNT consignment sent from Thales to BAE Systems. The parts were for the Astute Submarine.
What happened is that the stores person at BAE signed for the consignment but subsequently realised these parts were missing. They contacted Thales to complain but as far as Thales was concerned the consignment had been delivered as the stores person at BAE had signed for it.
Little did any of them know that TNT had lost these parts which were part of the consignment. TNT's lost property department "ID Stores" had sent the parts to a public auction.
Thales who had the account with TNT had their name and logos all over the packaging so it was no surprise Thales was spoken to on the day of the auction.
Neil Watts was a contact at BAE Systems.
Derek McCreery was a contact at Thales Underwater Systems. He did express interested buying the parts but no agreement was made.
The parts were subsequently advertised on eBay and sold to a private individual.
