T640-FPC3-E and T640-FPC3-E2 Junos Table

This is not a used Juniper router spare, This Juniper hardware was supplied to us by Juniper Networks under a warranty exchange agreemeent and not a Juniper distributor or Juniper dealer or Juniper reseller. This Juniper T640 FPC is not a refurbished Juniper T640 FPC. This is a Juniper T-series FPC. We have never used this Juniper spare. This T640-FPC3 is the T640-FPC3-E. This Juniper Flexible PIC concentrator is for Juniper T640 routers. It is not the T640-FPC3-ES but same as the T640-FPC3-E2 which requires later Junos releases. The T640-FPC3-E support earlier Junos releases from 6.3.

T640 FPC Description - Technical Documentation

Up to eight Flexible PIC Concentrators (FPCs) install vertically in the front of the T640 Core Router (see Figure 1). The FPC slots are numbered left to right from FPC0 to FPC7. An FPC can be installed into any FPC slot on the router, regardless of which PICs it contains.

If a slot is not occupied by an FPC, an FPC blank panel must be installed to shield the empty slot and to allow cooling air to circulate properly through the router.

Each FPC contains one or two Packet Forwarding Engines. The Packet Forwarding Engines receive incoming packets from the PICs installed on the FPC and forward them through the switch planes to the appropriate destination port. Each FPC contains data memory that is managed by the Queuing and Memory Interface ASICs.

FPCs are hot-removable and hot-insertable, as described in T640 Router FRU Overview. When you install an FPC into a functioning router, the Routing Engine downloads the FPC software, the FPC runs its diagnostics, and the PICs housed on the FPC are enabled. Forwarding continues uninterrupted during this process. For FPC replacement instructions, see Replacing a T640 FPC.

Each FPC consists of the following components:

■FPC card carrier.
■One or two Packet Forwarding Engines, consisting of Layer 2/Layer 3 Packet Processing ASICs, Switch Interface ASICs, T-series Internet Processor ASICs, and a Memory Mezzanine Board (MMB) which includes the Queuing and Memory Interface ASICs. Each Type 1, Type 2, and Type 4 FPC has one Packet Forwarding Engine, and each Type 3 FPC has two Packet Forwarding Engines.
■Processor Mezzanine Board (PMB), which includes a 300-MHz CPU, system controller, 256 MB of SDRAM, and two Fast Ethernet interfaces.
■Two LEDs, located on the craft interface above the FPC, that display the status of the FPC. For more information about the FPC LEDs, see T640 Craft Interface FPC LEDs and Online/Offline Buttons.
■FPC online/offline button, located on the craft interface above the FPC.
